The debate over Florida’s “Docs vs. Glocks” law started in a pediatrician’s exam room in Ocala during the summer of 2010. Amber Ullman, A mother of three was taking her child to the doctor for a routine checkup and was asked to answer some questions from the doctor regarding possible health risks for her child. Questions like, did she have a pool at home, did she talk on the cell phone while driving her children, and if she owned a firearm, were asked during the visit. Ullman, became upset when asked about owning a firearm and refused to answer the question.
Since this incident, the debate over whether or not doctors have the right to ask their patients if they own a firearm has been under review. Recently, an appeals court made the ruling that the state of Florida is allowed to ban physicians from talking about guns with their patients. Read the full article here.
